Microsoft IE8 Gets a Timely ActiveX Security Boost
Submitted by C.S. Magor on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 20:14.
ActiveX has been something that Windows users love to hate but can't live without. ActiveX really brings the web to life, allowing us to load the software that gives us all the interactivity that we take for granted. It also happens to be the entry point for a large percentage of the malicious software that our PCs become infected with while browsing.
The bad news is that the folks who wish to continue with XP won't get the full functionality of IE8. While XP users will be able to run the browser, the additional ActiveX security will be a Vista-only feature. [Microsoft via Ars Technica]
