ClocksA Timepiece for TechnophilesSubmitted by C.S. Magor on Wed, 03/26/2008 - 06:08.
It would be fair to say that I love technology more than the next man. I can't help it, it is in my blood. While my wife would not approve of a clock like Debby Arem Designs circuit board clock going in our living room, it most certainly has a place in our office. If it doesn't sell before next month is out, I might actually buy it. This thing is a work of art, and while we have seen circuit board and even computer part clocks before, this one seems a little more stylish; though not less geeky. It is the detailing more than the circuit board that really sets it apart: the wavy hands, copper and brass accents, the etched CD that forms the center of the piece; it all comes together very well as a cohesive unit. This doesn't look like the clock someone decided to make because they had a few spare parts lying around; it looks like the clock that they found spare parts to make. I love it and it looks to be well worth the $120 price tag. It is a big wall clock at 10" by 10", so you are sure to get your money's worth. The Big Crunch Clock assumes that the earth will remain inhabitable until our sun dies. I am not so optimistic and feel that humanity will be wiped out long before then, but I will give the Big Crunch Clock its day in court. It is a really cool concept and it performs no really useful function. All it does is countdown the years that we have remaining, apparently there are 4,999,999,991 more to go and displays all of the information on a 20 digit LED screen. I seriously doubt that the Big Crunch Clock will survive longer than twenty years, let alone the approximate 5,000,000,000 that it would be required to last through in order to fulfill its function.
